Charles Lister, Senior Fellow and Director of the Extremism and Counterterrorism Program at the Middle East Institute in Washington D.C., was in Florence as a Speaker at the MEDirections Summer School on “Post-Conflict Stabilisation: The Day after IS Military Defeat” (9-11 July 2018).

In this brief video he analyses why the understanding of the root causes that gave ISIS the opportunity to emerge in 2014 is still crucial in order to prevent ISIS from surviving and eventually from growing again in the future.
