Abdolrasool (Farzam) Divsallar co-leads the Regional Security Initiative at the Middle East Directions Programme of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and is a Policy Leader Fellow at the School of Transnational Governance in the European University Institute. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Middle Eastern Studies at the Graduate School of Universita’ Cattolica (ASERI), teaching courses on ‘Regional disorder in the Persian Gulf’ and ‘Iranian strategic thinking.’
Previously, Dr. Divsallar was a senior fellow at the Institute for Middle East Strategic Studies (2017-2019), Deputy Director of the Kish Institute of Science and Technology (2013-2014), and Director of the National Resource and Development Program (2009-2015) in Tehran. In 2005-2012 he worked as a researcher at both the Defense Industries Training and Research Institute and the Center for Strategic Studies of Expediency Council.
Divsallar holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Tehran and is specialized on Iranian issues. His main research interests include Iran’s military-security policy, comparative threat perception, and regional security. He is the author of several book in Farsi including ‘Understanding Iranian Military Environment’ (2008), and ‘Reflections on the Idea of Progress’ (2017). His upcoming book, ‘Stepping away from the Abyss: Step-by-step toward a New Security system in the Persian Gulf’, is a co-edited volume with Luigi Narbone and is due to be released in March 2021 by EUI Cadmus. His peer-reviews, policybriefs, and commentaries regularly appear in international and Persian outlets.
