Scientific Committee

MEDirections promotes multidisciplinary field-based research with the aim of producing high-quality academic research that can be of use to policy-makers and practitioners. Policy relevance is a key element for all the publications of the Programme. 

Aiming to ensure scientific excellence of publications, MEDirections established a Scientific Committee that is composed of the Programme’s Director, Scientific Advisor and Fellows; prominent figures from the worlds of academia, policy-making and practice, that are:

  • Bruno Dupré – Security and Defense Advisor, EEAS Secretariat General
  • Amr El Shobaki – Head of the Arab-European unit, Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, Cairo
  • Heba Raouf Ezzat – Assistant Professor, Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul
  • Geoffrey Howard – Senior Research Analyst, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  • Salam Kawakibi – Director of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, Paris
  • Michael Köhler, Director Neighbourhood, Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, European Commission
