Date and Location

The MEDirections Summer School will take place between Wednesday 5th July (starting in the afternoon) and Saturday 8th July (until late afternoon) at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy).

Participants are expected to arrive in Florence by the morning of Wednesday 5th July and leave no earlier than the evening of Saturday 8th July.

Eligibility

Successful applications to the Summer School will satisfy the following criteria:

  • A relevant Master’s degree or at least 2 years of relevant professional experience;
  • A strong professional and/or research background in a relevant field;
  • An excellent working knowledge (speaking and writing) of English;
  • The availability to attend the programme for the full duration.

Researchers, civil servants and professionals from intergovernmental and governmental agencies, NGOs and other organisations working in related areas are encouraged to apply.

 

Fees

Full-paying: €1000. The fee includes: accommodation, tuition fees, all course materials, access to the EUI library, wifi access at the EUI, lunches and coffee breaks. In addition, participants must book and cover expenses for travel to and from Florence.

Scholarships and Fee-waier places

Scholarship and fee-waiver places are available and awarded according to merit and financial need. Full scholarship places are competitive and limited, so if you or your institution is able to cover the cost of your expenses, you are advised to apply for a paying place, fee-waiver or a partial scholarship place.

If you are applying for a scholarship or fee-waiver place, make sure it is clearly stated on your application form along with a supporting motivation.

Full Scholarship: €0. The Summer School covers all expenses: travel expenses to and from Florence, accommodation, tuition fees, all course materials, access to the EUI library, wifi access at the EUI, lunches and coffee breaks on days of lectures.

Applicants from the region are encouraged to apply.

Partial Scholarship: Participants cover their own travel expenses to and from Florence. The Summer School covers on-site expenses: accommodation, tuition fees, all course materials, access to the EUI library, wifi access at the EUI, lunches and coffee breaks on days of lectures.

Applicants from intergovernmental and governmental agencies, and NGOs and other related organisations are encouraged to apply.

Fee-waiver: €500. The Summer School covers: Tuition fees.

The fee includes: accommodation, all course materials, access to the EUI library, wifi access at the EUI, lunches and coffee breaks on days of lectures. Tuition is covered by Summer School. Participants must book and cover expenses for travel to and from Florence.

Applicants from intergovernmental and governmental agencies, and NGOs and other related organisations are encouraged to apply.

 

Travel

Full-Paying place: Participants book and cover their own travel expenses to and from Florence

Timetable

Monday 3 April – Applications open
Wednesday 31 May – Deadline for applications

First week of June – Notification to applicants
Wednesday 5 July – Summer School participants arrive in Florence and Summer School starts

Saturday 8 July – Summer School ends
Sunday 9 July – Summer School participants leave Florence
