The European Union is today under attack from jihadist terrorism, with a threat that comes from both outside and within its own borders. This phenomenon has led the Union to give more attention to the internal factors of risk, primarily the processes leading to violent radicalization, and to their interaction with the geopolitical scenario.

The Middle East Direction hold a day workshop with Mr. Gilles De Kerchove on the theme :’Understanding Jihadism’.

In his evening special lecture, Mr Gilles De Kerchove illustrated the current situation at European level, reviewed the upcoming challenges and highlighted the EU response in terms of prevention and detection.
