How can we understand the ongoing political contestation and protest movement in Algeria? What will its domestic and regional impact be?

This workshop will bring together Algerian academics, researchers and journalists with international specialists to analyse the domestic and regional transformations taking place. Through three thematic panels, the workshop will address the roots of the current protest movement and the dynamics at play between the movement and the Algerian regime, the role played by socio-economic transformations in the political contestation and the geopolitical impact of the current situation.

The sessions will be informal and interactive, with each panel consisting of a few short presentations followed by a debate among the speakers and attendees. The workshop will conclude with a policy-focused roundtable on key dynamics and future prospects for the country.

Que se passe-t-il en Algérie depuis février dernier? Quelle est la signification du mouvement de protestation en cours? Quel impact peut-il avoir au plan intérieur et régional?

Ce séminaire rassemblera des universitaires, chercheurs et journalistes algériens ainsi que des experts internationaux et aura pour objectif d’analyser les transformations en cours sur les scènes domestique et régionale. il sera structuré en trois panels thématiques, chacun centré sur un angle ou une question spécifique: les origines du mouvement de contestation et l’évolution des relations entre ce mouvement et le régime (panel 1); le rôle joué par les transformations socio-économiques dans la contestation (panel 2); l’impact géopolitique de la crise (panel 3).

Les panels ont vocation à être informaux et interactifs. Chacun consistera en une série de très courtes présentations destinées à initier le débat entre les intervenants et le reste des participants. Le séminaire se concluera avec une table-ronde qui devrait mettre en évidence les principales dynamiques en cours et les perspectives d’évolution pour le futur.
